Central East Regional Cancer Program 1st overall for performance in Ontario

The Durham Regional Cancer Centre has shot up the ranks and is now first in overall performance in Ontario according to Cancer Care Ontario. The program is based out of Lakeridge Health and partners with other area hospitals from Scarborough, Peterborough and Cobourg to provide quick access to diagnosis and cancer treatment for people.

Debby Guerreiro knows first-hand how important quick treatment can be. “I got the answers I needed quickly so that I could begin my treatments for breast cancer,” says Guerreiro who finished her last radiation treatment today. “I felt like I had the entire team behind me, working to get me better again. I can’t say enough about the care I received.”

The Durham Regional Cancer Centre boasts some of the shortest wait times from diagnosis to treatment.

“We built this Cancer Centre to be the best, because our neighbours who come through our doors deserve the very best,” says Kevin Empey, President and CEO of Lakeridge Health. “We hear from people every day whose lives have been touched by our caring and dedicated health care team. And that’s what motivates us to keep getting better.”

“The Central East Regional Cancer Program is unique in that we have several large hospital partners who work hard to ensure all of our families receive the same timely access to the high quality services they need. It’s the spirit of that partnership that has helped get us to where we are today – no. 1 in the province,” says Tom McHugh, Vice President of Clinical Services at Lakeridge Health and Regional Vice President of Cancer Services.
