Expanding Physiotherapy for Seniors and Patients
In April 2013, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care announced improved access to high-quality physiotherapy services and exercise and fall prevention classes for more than 200,000 additional seniors and patients across the province. In 2014/15, the Central East LHIN, in conjunction with the MOHTLC and local health service providers, expanded the sites for Exercise and Falls Prevention Classes to 165 locations across the Central East LHIN; implemented physiotherapy in primary care settings; ensured the Central East LHIN was the single point of access for all publically-funded one-on-one in home physiotherapy services; and continued to provide funding for community-based physiotherapy clinics as well as physiotherapy and exercise activities in the LHIN’s long-term care homes.
Exercise and Falls Prevention Classes for seniors in community settings

One-on-one physiotherapy for all long-term care residents with assessed need, in addition to group exercise classes
As of August 2013, Long-Term Care Homes have been funded to provide and make all the arrangements for residents to receive physiotherapy services, both individual treatment and exercise classes in their Long-Term Care Home.
In-home physiotherapy for seniors and people with mobility issues to clear current waitlists
Beginning on August 1, 2013, the Central East LHIN became the single point of access for all publically-funded in-home physiotherapy service in the Central East sub-regions. The services include in-home physiotherapy both in groups and individual care, for seniors and people with mobility issues (including those residents of retirement homes, assisted living locations and other congregate settings).
